Sono Victoria Romano, ho 17 anni e vivo a Milano. Sono una studentessa della scuola americana e ho la passione per il film e per la scrittura. Ho voluto partecipare al concorso Covid19 International Student Film Festival nella categoria ‘My Perspective” perché volevo dare la prospettiva di noi teenagers su questo momento storico che tutti stiamo vivendo.
Il titolo, “Noi Siamo”, vuole indicare infatti la forza che la nostra generazione di ragazzi e ragazze ha dimostrato nell’affermare comunque la propria personalità, il proprio ‘essere’ durante questa pandemia, dedicandosi alle proprie passioni con lo stesso impegno e la stessa dedizione di sempre. Volevo offrire una prospettiva positiva, e cristallizzare questo momento di cauto ottimismo che si respira oggi in Italia. Sono stati mesi difficili, ma quello che oggi siamo lo dobbiamo anche a questa esperienza. Non abbiamo perso il nostro focus, anche se per un momento abbiamo pensato di averlo fatto.
Allo stesso tempo ho voluto fare un omaggio alla bellezza e alla resilienza della mia Milano, che sembra aver sofferto e vissuto con noi questa esperienza. Se per un momento la città sembrava aver perso la sua carica vitale, rinchiudendosi in se stessa per affrontare questo dramma, nessuno ha mai dubitato che presto sarebbe ritornata più bella e più vibrante di prima.
L’idea mi è venuta da uno dei miei film preferiti, “Caro Diario” di Nanni Moretti, e così ho fatto percorrere le strade di Milano in bicicletta al mio protagonista, Marco, per descriverne i luoghi a me più cari: il Duomo, il Castello, il Parco Sempione, i Navigli, e anche alcune vie anonime, ma piene di fascino.
Le mie riprese vogliono essere un lungo caldo abbraccio, sia per i miei amici che per la mia città. Quell’abbraccio che in questi mesi ci è tanto mancato.
"We Are" – a film on the strength of my generation and city
I'm Victoria Romano, I'm 17 and I live in Milan. I am a student at the American School, and I have a passion for film and writing. I wanted to participate in the Covid-19 International Student Film Festival in the 'My Perspective' category because I wanted to provide a depiction of the adolescent experience during this historical moment we are all witnessing.
The title, "We Are", in fact, indicates the strength that our generation has shown in affirming their individual personalities, their 'being' during this pandemic, dedicating themselves to passions with the same commitment and same dedication as always. I wanted to offer a positive perspective, and crystallize this moment of cautious optimism that is breathed today in Italy. These have been difficult months, but we have all grown and evolved from them. We haven't lost our focus, although for a moment we thought we did.
At the same time, I wanted to pay homage to the beauty and resilience of Milan, my city, which seems to have suffered and lived this experience with all of us. For a moment the city seemed to have lost its vital charge, withdrawing itself to face this tragedy. No one ever doubted that it would soon return more beautiful and more vibrant than before.
The idea came to me from one of my favorite films, "Caro Diario" by Nanni Moretti. I made my protagonist, Marco, travel the streets of Milan on a bicycle to describe the places most dear to me: the Duomo, the Castle, the Sempione Park, the Navigli, and even some anonymous streets, full of charm.
My shots are meant to be a long warm embrace, both for my friends and for my city. That hug that we have missed so much in recent months.
